![]() A nation is an imagined community, Anderson says, because regardless of the actual inequality and exploitation that may succeed in each, the nation is always imagined as a deep, parallel comradeship. Instead, members hold in their minds a mental image of their likeness. 1 An imagined community is different from an actual community, because it is not (and cannot be) based on ordinary face-to-face interaction between its members. In his pioneering work, Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism, Benedict Anderson defined a nation as "an imagined political community imagined as both inherently limited and sovereign". ![]() Issues like identity formation, community formation and other issues have been taken for study. We outline the debates on dalits and dalit writings in Kerala. The debate on the dalit of Kerala has an important relationship with discussion on the Maharashtra dalit literature. We discuss the relationship of dalit identity formation, politicization in their representation in literature and my focus is on dalit and adivasi debates in Kerala. Here we approach this debate through a study of identity politics and community formation and in the emerging " dalit literature " of Kerala. These writings advocated the existence of a dalit identity and community in Kerala. Our interest in these writings arose with the publication of several writings in Malayalam periodicals. Recent years have seen a spurt of dalit writings in Malayalam literature. This paper attempts to study the formation of a dalit community and identity in Kerala. Thus transformation of the " dalit " identity " represents a new type of polit ical assertion that confronts, counters and redesigns older forms of struggles, against both class and caste exploitation. To this end dalit writers find and celebrate the similarities of dalit literature with Black literature inspired by the Panthers Movements in USA. Through these similarit ies they create a dalit identity and culture that defines " Dalitness' which is not only national but international in its inspiration. It ignores the differences within the dalit communities rather they concentrate on building on similarities. I argue that the representation of dalit literature celebrates the dalit condition as an unparalleled one an d a permanent entity. Further I analyse the term " dalit literature " and its various implications. ![]() Though the opinion of pro minent figures like Gandhi, A mbedkar, Phule, EV Ramaswami, Dalit Panthers Movement, Marxist, and others are analyzed, the contemporary writers have not been included in this paper. This research paper attempts to study the emergence of the term dalit and its various interpretations. The political system cannot be changed in a short period of time to cope up with the problems of threats to the national unity and integration, but something needs to be done rather waiting to see the ongoing practices. Due to its complex nature and transitive stage of development, the political system is infested with many problems but the problems are imminent for such a vast country and their solutions are also not that easy but their intensities can be lowered. though vested interests operate in Indian soil threatening unity and integrity of India but they lack the might to be successful in their endeavors. In India we share the same political culture marked by the norms of democracy, secularism, affection for the motherland etc. India’s political unity is an offshoot of the religious and cultural unity. Notwithstanding the various diversities present in India, there are bonds of unity. Being a huge country with ever rising identities and population, India presents numerous varieties of physical characteristics and cultural patterns. India presents unity amidst diversities which are unique in themselves. India is a unique plural and complex federal country and its federal features are evident in practically every major aspects of its collective life.
